‘Feud’ Again Tops Syndication And Games

Despite slipping 3%, it tops the chart with a 5.7 household rating in the session ending June 20. In a listless week, Live with Kelly and Ryan and Dr. Phil posted ratings gains, climbing 6% and 7%, respectively.

Several of the most closely followed talk show generated plenty of ratings steam in an otherwise slow session ending June 20. Despite declining PUT levels, the top two talkers were among the few shows to leap into positive territory.

Leader Live with Kelly and Ryan was relentless, rising 6% to a 1.7 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, and repeats of Dr. Phil forged ahead 7% to a second-place 1.5. Live, which is having a banner year, has snared first place for six straight weeks and is the No. 1 talk show season to date among in the key women 25-54 demo.

The only other gabfests in the plus column were already renewed newcomer Drew Barrymore, which barreled ahead 25% to a 0.5 with encore episodes, and Dr. Oz, which recovered 20% to a 0.6.

Elsewhere in daytime, courtroom sensation Judge Judy took a 4% breather but still scored a hefty 5.0. Hot Bench was the second-highest gaveler, growing 7% to a three-week high 1.5 and tying Phil as the third biggest show in all of daytime.

Kelly Clarkson and her eponymous program, which was able to hold its ground despite preemptions at a 0.8 with more than 1.2 million daily viewers, were named Emmy’s outstanding talk host and outstanding talk show, respectively.

On the game show playing field, Family Feud fell 3% to a 5.7 but continued to lead the games and all of syndication once again.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Jeopardy, which was the category winner at the recent Daytime Emmys along with its late host Alex Trebek, slipped 8% to a 4.7 with Savannah Guthrie at the podium.

The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.8, +14% from the week before)
  • Dr. Phil (0.5, unchanged), tied with Wendy Williams (0.5, unchanged)
  • Kelly Clarkson (0.4, unchanged), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.4, unchanged) and Maury (0.4, unchanged)
