Halloween Week A Treat For ‘Live With Kelly And Ryan’

Hot newcomer Jennifer Hudson hit a home run in households as shows had to compete with Games 3,4 and 5 of the World Series in the session ending Nov. 6. The closely watched rookie rose by double digits and recorded its strongest outing since its September debut, joining fellow freshman Sherri as syndication’s highest-rated new shows.

Hudson hauled in a 17% increase to a 0.7 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, while Sherri sustained its stellar 0.7.

Freshman game show Pictionary, starring Jerry O’Connell, joined the jumping viewer party with a 25% leap to a four-week high 0.5.

Another newcomer making a major increase was Karamo, staring Karamo Brown, which saw its audience balloon 15% to a best-yet 504,000 daily viewers.

The week that began with Halloween did not scare Live with Kelly and Ryan, which swelled 7% to a 1.6 and matched its season high. Cementing its claim to first place in the category for a 24^th consecutive week (including eight ties), Live’s annual Halloween special was a Nielsen smash, spiking 20% to a new season best 1.8 rating on Oct. 31.

Dr. Phil took second place with a modest decline of 7 % to a 1.3, although it added 25% among women 25-54.

Third-place Kelly Clarkson clocked its biggest women 25-54 rating in a month, climbing 33% in the key age group.

In magazine action, TMZ gave back 14% to a 0.6 and was tied for fourth by Extra, which held its ground at its season high 0.6 and grew 50% in the women 25-54 demo. Both shows were battered by baseball preemptions on Fox stations.

The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:

• Kelly Clarkson (0.4, +33%)
