InvestigateTV Releases ‘Killing Pavel’ Documentary

Raycom Media’s InvestigateTV has released Killing Pavel, a documentary focused on the death of journalist Pavel Sheremet, killed in a car bombing two years ago.

Sheremet was an investigative journalist from Belarus, known to be critical of authoritarian leadership in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. Despite a call by the Ukrainian president for police to solve the case, Sheremet’s death remains unsolved.

The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) teamed with Slidstvo.Info, a Ukrainian investigative unit, to conduct their own investigation to find out who was responsible for Sheremet’s death. The documentary Killing Pavel is the result of their efforts. Journalists used surveillance video and forensic analysis to track down new witnesses and uncover new details related to their colleague’s death.

“Killing Pavel is a fascinating example of when journalism meets detective work,” said Sandy Breland, Raycom Media senior group vice president. “The reporters and producers creatively use technology and storytelling to chase down leads in their colleague’s murder. It’s gripping from beginning to end. We’re excited to be able to bring this exceptional international documentary to our viewers on InvestigateTV.”

The documentary won an IRE Medal, the highest honor from the Investigative Reporters and Editors organization.
