WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Jeopardy’ Retains Its No. 1 Syndie Spot

In the week ending Jan. 17, “Greatest Of All Time” winner Ken Jennings began his stint as the first in a series of interim hosts with Jeopardy topping the game shows and all of syndication in the household ratings.

Jeopardy declined 6% from the prior week to a still-more-than-respectable 6.2 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating in the session ending Jan. 17, its initial frame without Alex Trebek.

In his place, “Greatest Of All Time” winner Ken Jennings began his stint as the first in a series of interim hosts with Jeopardy topping the game shows and all of syndication in the household ratings.

Wheel of Fortune, the companion to Jeopardy in most major slipped 3% to a 5.8. Family Feud was not far behind, climbing 6% to a 5.4.

Elsewhere, greatest of all time court show Judge Judy was one of the programs hit with numerous preemptions for the Jan. 13 congressional debate on Trump’s impeachment and gave back 4% to a 5.4, still leading all of daytime and tying Feud in households for the week.

Season-to-date, Judy continues to beat all of syndication in the household ratings in this, its 25th and final year in first run.

Turning to the talkers, Live with Kelly and Ryan and Dr. Phil finished in a first place dead heat at a 1.8 with Kelly like Judy being heavily preempted on Jan. 13 and relinquishing 10% while Phil held steady.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Surging sophomore Kelly Clarkson grabbed a share of third place in talk for the fifth time in six weeks, hanging tough at a 1.0, while tying an unchanged Maury and Ellen DeGeneres, which delivered an 11% increase.

The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.7, -22% from the week before)
  • Dr. Phil (0.6, unchanged)
  • Kelly Clarkson (0.5, unchanged), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.5, +25%) and Maury (0.5, unchanged)

Ken Jennings is an extremely weak substitute for Alex (the 6% Nielsen decline proves it) and Katie has disgraced herself. Next!

Jeopardy remains constant as the ratings prove it was going down from it’s high since Alex final EP aired.
