‘Judge Judy’ Wins The Week And Season
As the 2018-19 syndication season comes to a close, Judge Judy has emerged as the clear No. 1 show, leading the household ratings by a wide margin with a 6.8 live-plus-same-day season-to-date national Nielsen.
This marks a full decade at the top of all first-run programs for Judy and six straight years as syndication’s highest rated show overall.
Coming in second and third as of the session ending Aug. 18 were Jeopardy at a season-to-date 6.2, and Family Feud at a 6.1.
In the closely watched talk show category, Dr. Phil, which has finished first for 154 consecutive weeks, scored a 2.7 season average and was the frontrunner for the eighth year in a row, including a first-place tie in 2015-16.
Live with Kelly and Ryan, which also had a strong year, came closest to Phil with a 2.2 season-to-date, followed by Ellen DeGeneres at a 2.0.
For the current frame that ended Aug. 18, shows were mostly little changed. Judy ruled the ratings for the fifth time in six weeks with a 2% improvement to a one-month high 5.9, even though the strip was in reruns on all five days.
In tryout news, week six of the six-week test that began July 15 for comedic game show Punchline earned a 0.3 rating/1 share weighted metered market average, which was off 40% from both its lead-ins and August 2018 time periods.
In another trial, the national numbers for the first week of a three-week test for talker Jerry O’ starring Jerry O’Connell airing on the Fox O&Os in Wendy Williams time periods were included in a blended 0.9 national rating for Wendy, which was in repeats in the session ending Aug. 18. That matched the previous week of Wendy alone.
The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:
- Dr. Phil (0.8, +14% from the week before), tied with Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.8, unchanged)
- Maury (0.7, +17%)
- Ellen DeGeneres (0.5, unchanged), tied with Steve Wilkos (0.5, unchanged)
In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA mean not applicable.

I’m hoping in the next couple of weeks that Live With Kelly & Ryan beats Dr. Phil in the ratings that would be a good thing. Since I don’t like Dr. Phil.
