‘Live With Kelly And Ryan’ Tops Talkers
Daytime hit Live with Kelly and Ryan and Tamron Hall were the only two of the 15 talk shows able to gain ground in a mostly frozen late winter session that ended March 13 that saw few winners.
While many strips were being kicked out of their time periods by soccer coverage March 8-9, Live leapt into undisputed possession of first place with a 6% spike from the week before to a 1.7 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating. Hall also triumphed 17%, shooting up to a 0.7.
Following No. 2 talker Dr. Phil, which dipped 6%, Ellen DeGeneres took over third, holding its ground at a 0.9. One of the biggest hits in daytime history, Ellen will have its final show after 19 seasons with its eponymous host on May 26. The program will continue through the summer with guest hosts, compilation shows and repeats.
Further back, conflict talker Maury, which has been slapped with a cancellation notice for its original productions, sank 30% from last year at this time to a 0.7. That was the steepest year-to-year decline of any talk show.
Turning to courtroom proceedings, Hot Bench was on fire, forging ahead 7% and matching its highest rating of the season at a 1.6. That was behind only the unbeatable Judge Judy, which has led the court show standings for the past 1,329 consecutive weeks.
Among access programs, Entertainment Tonight was the sole magazine moving up, advancing 5% to a five-week high 2.2, while Jeopardy inched up 2% to outplay the game shows.
The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:
- Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.6, from the week before), tied with Dr. Phil (0.6, unchanged)
- Maury (0.4, unchanged)
In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA means not applicable.
