WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Lively Week For ‘Live With Kelly And Ryan’

The long-running morning favorite shot up 27% in the week ending Sept. 13 from the previous frame to a six-week high 1.9 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating. That was good enough to tie a steady Dr. Phil for first place in talk.

Live with Kelly and Ryan rolled out its new season with a bang in the otherwise quiet Labor Day session ending Sept 13. The long-running morning favorite shot up 27% from the previous frame to a six-week high 1.9 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating. That was good enough to tie a steady Dr. Phil for first place in talk. Phil, whose new season ratings won’t be available for another week, had been No. 1 in the yak pack 10 times in the past 11 weeks.

Far below the top two, Maury was a distant third with a 1.0 for the sixth week in a row, followed by Steve Wilkos with an unchanged 0.9 for a seventh straight week.

Ellen DeGeneres remained at a 0.9, the lowest rating in the show’s 17-year history, for a fifth week in a row. That was 53% below its comparable week one year earlier.

National ratings for Ellen’s new season, which didn’t begin until Sept. 21, will not appear until two weeks from now. Reruns of Judge Judy and fellow gaveler Hot Bench continue to be the shows to beat in daytime, with Judy far in front at a 5.4 and Bench tying Live and Phil for second place in the daypart at a 1.9.

Elsewhere, Family Feud, which airs mainly in prime access time periods, led all shows with a 5.5.

In the metered markets, the first full week of the Drew Barrymore Show, which debuted Monday, Sep. 14, got off to an encouraging start, especially on the CBS O&Os. Drew improved CBS station time periods by 33% among women 25-54 and by 50% among adults 25-54 compared to last year.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

The show averaged a preliminary 0.8 rating/3 share weighted average for all primary runs, despite not being seen in a number of markets due to U.S. Open Golf on NBC. On the other hand, the debut week of first-run newsmagazine strip Law and Crime Daily, which also premiered on Sept. 14, averaged a 0.2/1.

Among Drew’s biggest overnight markets was Buffalo, where it jumped 57% to a 2.2/6 and was one of the cities in which the newcomer won its time period. Drew also banged out numerous triple-digit time slot improvements over last year including: 100% in Los Angeles; 150% in Baltimore; 200% in Louisville, Ky.; and 200% in Jacksonville, Fla.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.8, +14% from the week before)
  • Dr. Phil (0.7, unchanged)
  • Maury (0.5, unchanged)
  • Steve Wilkos (0.4, unchanged), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.4, unchanged)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA means not applicable.
