Lots To See As Syndie’s New Season Gets Underway

Syndication’s No. 1 freshman shows were Jennifer Hudson and Sherri, which both tallied a premiere week 0.7 in the week ending Sept. 18. Among returning shows, Jeopardy was the overall leader, jumping 23% from the previous session.

Syndication was lively in the session ending Sept. 18, which was the first week of the new season for many shows.

Jeopardy was the overall leader, jumping 23% from the previous week’s repeats to a 4.9 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating.

Family Feud was a close second, falling 4% to a 4.8. Wheel of Fortune spun a 10% advance to a 4.5, while courtroom champ Judge Judy grew 2% to a 4.3.

Several highly anticipated rookies scored big in their opening weeks on the chart.

Syndication’s No. 1 new shows were: Jennifer Hudson, which hit a premiere week 0.7 and Sherri, which also earned a strong 0.7 for its opener.

Another talker, Karamo, began Sept. 19 and averaged a 0.3 rating/1 share for its primary runs in the metered markets with a Top 20 market best 0.9/5 in Cleveland, beating The Real — the show it replaced — by 80% and snaring second place in its time period.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Back in the national ratings, newcomer iCrime with Elizabeth Vargas debuted at a 0.5.

The premiere of new game Pictionary popped up with a respectable 0.4. Among other key markets the show was popular in Philadelphia, where its latest numbers have it beating Dr. Oz, the previous occupant, by 33%.

Also making an entrance was court show We the People with Judge Lauren Lake.

Among the veteran talkers, Kelly Clarkson kicked off its fourth season, surging 29% to a 0.9.

Drew Barrymore had its best week ever as its new season’s ratings ballooned 100% from the prior frame and 60% from last year to a new all-time high 0.8.

Tamron Hall was also hot, shooting up 17% to a 0.7.

Live with Kelly and Ryan remained at the top of the talk shows for a 17th straight week, including ties, despite a 7% dip to 1.4.

Also of note, Entertainment Tonight got a boost from coverage of the Primetime Emmy Awards and added 5% to a 2.0, that was second only to Inside Edition at a 2.1.

The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.5, unchanged from the week before), tied with Dr. Phil (0.5, unchanged)
  • Tamron Hall (0.3, +50%), tied with Drew Barrymore (0.3, +200%), Rachael Ray (0.3, +50%), Kelly Clarkson (0.3, NC), Jennifer Hudson (0.3, premiere) and Sherri (0.3, premiere)
