More Movement Among Syndies

The top shows by genre in the week ending July 12 were Dr. Phil (talk), 25 Words or Less (rookies), Judge Judy (courtrooms), Family Feud (games) and Inside Edition (magazines).

Court shows, led by juggernaut Judge Judy, were the dominant daytime force in the session ending July 12, extending a recent trend. Judy continued to punch the lights out of all daytime competition with a 4% spike to a six-week high 5.8 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, even though the show was in reruns on all five days.

Also smoking, Hot Bench was the No. 2 courtroom and ranked as syndications second highest daytime strip for the fifth week in a row, attracting nearly 2.7 million daily viewers and holding its ground at a 2.0. That was good enough to tie talk show king Dr. Phil.

Peoples Court climbed 8% to a 1.4 and Judge Mathis motored ahead 13% to a 0.9

Meanwhile, Dr. Phil rose 5% to a 2.0 to lead the mostly stable gabfests. Live with Kelly and Ryan remained a strong second in talk, hanging tough at a 1.6; Ellen DeGeneres and Maury were next in line with both at an unchanged 1.1.

Rookie talker Kelly Clarkson, the No. 1 new show of the season, belted out a 25% gain in the coveted women 25-54 demo and an 11% increase to a 1.0 in households with four days of Summer Staycation shows from her L.A. home.

In access, Inside Edition added 4% to a 2.5 to lead the magazines. Entertainment Tonight was a close second with a steady 2.3 and Access Hollywood rounded out the top three, jumping 10% to a 1.1.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Among game shows, Family Feud maintained its top spot with an unchanged 5.9, which put it at the top of the syndication ratings, and was also No. 1 among women 25-54 with a 2.2.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.7, unchanged from the week before), tied with Dr. Phil (0.7, unchanged)
  • Maury (0.6, unchanged)
  • Kelly Clarkson (0.5, +25%), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.5, unchanged) and Steve Wilkos (0.5, unchanged)
