Syndicated ‘Caught In Providence’ Renewed

Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury & Citylife Productions’ freshman series with Judge Frank Caprio is cleared in nearly 90% of the U.S., including the Fox Television Stations, for a second season.

Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury today announced Caught in Providence, featuring viral sensation Judge Frank Caprio and co-produced with Citylife Productions, will return for a second season in national syndication.

The renewal of the courtroom series, which debuted this past September and is co-executive produced by Paula Abdul, will bring back the chief municipal judge of Providence, R.I., to the Fox Television Stations and others covering a total of nearly 90% of the U.S.

Videos of Judge Caprio’s heartwarming and engaging cases have also continued to make an impact on social media, climbing to nearly 2 billion online views.

“Judge Caprio’s undeniable brand of compassion and commonsense approach to justice have caught the attention of the daytime TV and social media audiences, making Caught In Providence worthy of a second season,” Debmar-Mercury Co-Presidents Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein said. “His unique ability to entertain and enlighten viewers validates our initial belief in their thirst for a light-hearted television destination in today’s not-so-lighthearted climate.”

The Mayor and City Council of Providence named the former chairman of the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education as a municipal judge in 1985 and later as Chief Judge, reappointing him to the post six times.

A senior partner at the Providence law firm he founded, Caprio & Caprio, the judge has also served as a member of the Rhode Island Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education; received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from his alma mater, Suffolk University Law School, in 1991; and, in 2008, another honorary degree from his alma mater, Providence College.
