Talkers On A Roll, While ‘Judy’ Stays On Top

The chat shows are mostly all up in the week ending Jan. 31 while Judge Judy and Hot Bench crushed the court shows with both scoring six-week highs as Judy jumped 12% to a daytime-dominant 5.7.

Ratings for six of the top seven talk shows surged in the session ending Jan. 31 as Live with Kelly and Ryan once again led the yak pack, powering ahead 5% to a 2.0 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating. This marks the 10th week in a row that Live has finished first in the category, including two ties.

Dr. Phil was also sharp, spiking 12% to a six-week high 1.9 and snaring second place.

Ellen DeGeneres, the sole exception to the uptrend, was unable to improve, remaining unchanged at a 1.1 and landing in a tie with conflict talker Maury, which moved ahead 10%.

Sophomore strs Kelly Clarkson and Tamron Hall both banged out double-digit increases with Kelly climbing 11% and Tamron leaping 13% to a 1.0 and a 0.9, respectively.

Wendy Williams also joined the party, growing 11% to an 11-week high 1.0 to tie Clarkson.

The legal team of Judge Judy and Hot Bench crushed the court shows with both scoring six-week highs as Judy jumped 12% to a daytime-dominant 5.7, and Bench rose 6% to a 1.7.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

In access, Jeopardy inched up 2% to a 6.0 and narrowly led the game shows for the third straight week with guest host Ken Jennings at the podium.

Family Feud, up 4%, and Wheel of Fortune, up 2%, were both close behind at a 5.8.

The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.8, unchanged from the week before)
  • Dr. Phil (0.7, +17%)
  • Kelly Clarkson (0.5, unchanged), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.5, unchanged), Wendy Williams (0.5, +25%) and Maury (0.5, unchanged)
