John Orlando Launches Point52 Group

Veteran media and telecommunications executive John Orlando has founded Point52 Group, which will provide long-range strategic advice and counsel.

Orlando has been on the front lines of advocacy for broadcasters and media companies. Most recently, he was part of the CBS senior management team as the executive vice president of global government affairs for CBS Corp.

He oversaw the corporation’s activities in Washington and with state, local and foreign governments. Orlando guided CBS and the broadcast television industry on regulatory and legislative issues in Washington for over two decades. Working closely with the company’s business units, he provided expertise on the impact of Washington’s actions on their long-term strategy and goals.

Before joining the private sector, Orlando worked on Capitol Hill for 14 years. For seven of those years he was chief of staff to the late Rep. John Dingell and the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Dingell commented on Orlando’s record of service on the Hill and keen understanding of Congress as an institution and its interaction with the Executive Branch and federal regulatory agencies, praising Orlando as “one of the ablest public servants, I’ve ever known.”

After leaving public service, Orlando represented a number of the country’s leading corporations and trade associations as a principal at Timmons & Co., one of Washington’s premier lobbying firms. He then joined the National Association of Broadcasters where he headed the broadcast industry’s government relations efforts.

With his corporate, legislative and political experience, Orlando will provide Point52 Group clients with expertise in regulatory issues, legislative strategy and crisis management counseling.
