No Ownership Item On FCC’s Sept. Agenda

An FCC spokesman confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the proposals for modifying the cap will not be voted on at the Sept. 26 meeting and declined comment on when they might appear.

A widely anticipated vote on proposals to modify the FCC’s national media ownership rule will not be on the agency’s Sept. 26 meeting agenda — and it was unclear at deadline when the item would be considered.

An FCC spokesman confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the proposals will not be voted on at the Sept. 26 meeting and declined comment on when they might appear.

With the co-called UHF discount, the current cap limits station groups’ household coverage to between roughly 50% and  78% of TV homes, depending on a group’s mix of UHF and VHF stations. FCC has been considering a cap of 50% for all groups as well as completely eliminating the cap.

Obviously your TV Industry sources are clueless. With so many negative turn of events in the past weeks and months – the FCC is walking on eggshells and are Obviously NOT going to touch the Ownership Cap for a long, long time. Just because Pai was cleared of one issue doesn’t mean he is no longer under Investigation. The Feds will NEVER say what they are Investigating and just because there are leaks and rumors – doesn’t mean the Feds are looking at many other things – other than the rumor. Actually, in the case of TV Station Ad Collusion – whoever leaked the info to WSJ (most likely from the TV side rather than the DOJ side) can be subjected to prosecution. Until the TV Station Ad Collusion Investigation is over that Ownership Cap isn’t going anywhere.
