CBR To Showcase Top Station Security Practices

Security leaders from some of the nation’s top broadcasters and a major technology provider will share their list of best security practices at TVNewsCheck’s second annual Cybersecurity for Broadcasters Retreat in Orlando, Fla.

Ned Eberhart, director of IT security and compliance at Tegna Media; Nick Ceballo, corporate IT director for Graham Media Group; and John Reilly, executive director, IT and enterprise systems at public broadcaster KQED San Francisco; and a security leader for Sinclair Broadcast Group will participate in a panel at 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 21 wrapping up the two-day retreat.

“Establishing a list of industry best practices has been a priority for the Cybersecurity for Broadcasters Retreat since we launched this event last year,” said Kathy Haley, co-founder and publisher of NewsCheckMedia LLC, which produces the retreat. “The list will not be publicized, as that could provide a road map for cyber criminals, but attendees at CBR 2019 will leave the event with the list and with a growing list of contacts in TV’s IT and security community with whom to network and collaborate.”

Set for Feb. 20-21 at the Hyatt Grand Cypress hotel in Orlando, Cybersecurity for Broadcasters Retreat gathers the expanding number of IT and security executives, managers and professionals being recruited into the television industry, as well as TV engineering executives and managers to build community, share common concerns and engage in highly targeted educational sessions.

CBR 2019 will open with a two-hour Incident Response Simulation designed to train attendees to react calmly and effectively to a cybersecurity attack.

It will also include educational sessions, such as a fireside chat with Parham Eftekhari, executive director of the Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology; Ten Steps to Reducing Risk in 2019; Securing the Production Environment: A Conversation with Technology Vendors; Managing Security in the Cloud; and an ATSC 3.0 Security Protocol Update. In addition, there are Private Information Exchanges, where IT, security and technology executives, managers and professionals can discuss common concerns in a highly confidential environment.

The CBR observes Chatham House Rules and all attendees must sign a confidentiality agreement in order to attend.
