Five Stations Launch NextGen TV Flint, Mich.

WJRT, WNEM, WSMH, WEYI and WBSF are now broadcasting with ATSC 3.0 technology.

Leading television stations in Flint, Mich., today began broadcasting with NextGen TV, also known as ATSC 3.0.

Switching on the new transmission standard are Allen Media Group’s WJRT (ABC), Gray Television’s WNEM (CBS), Sinclair Broadcast Group’s WSMH (Fox), Howard Stirk Holdings’ WEYI (NBC) and Cunningham Broadcasting’s WBSF (CW).

Today’s launch in Flint follows a decade of development and months of planning and preparation by the local stations. WBSF has converted to ATSC 3.0 transmissions and will broadcast its own programming, as well as the programming of the other participating stations, in NextGen TV format.

The programming of each participating station will continue to be available in the existing DTV format, which all modern television sets can receive.

BitPath, which is developing new data broadcasting services, led the planning process and coordinated efforts across the five television stations.
