Five Stations Launch NextGen TV In West Palm Beach

WPBF, WPEC, WFLX, WPTV and WWHB-CD are now broadcasting with ATSC 3.0 technology.

Leading television stations in West Palm Beach, Fla. (DMA 39), on Tuesday began broadcasting with NextGen TV, also known as ATSC 3.0.

Switching on the new transmission standard are Sinclair Broadcasting Group’s WPEC (CBS) and WWHB-CD (Azteca); Hearst’s WPBF (ABC); Scripps’ WPTV (NBC); and Gray Television’s WFLX (Fox).

Today’s launch in West Palm Beach follows a decade of development and months of planning and preparation by the stations. WWHB-CD has converted to ATSC 3.0 transmissions and will broadcast its own programming, as well as the programming of the other participating stations, in NextGen TV format.

The programming of all participating stations will continue to be available in the existing DTV format, which can be received on all modern television sets.

BitPath, which is developing new data broadcasting services, led the planning process and coordinated efforts across the five television stations.
