IBC: Zaxcom Introduces New TRXLA5 And TRX745 Wireless Transmitters

At IBC 2022 (RAI, Amsterdam, Sept. 9-12), Zaxcom introduced the first transmitters in its product line covering Blocks 20-26 (local regulation dependent), the TRXLA5 and TRX745 digital recording wireless transmitters. The TRXLA5 has the same versatile bodypack design as its predecessor but boasts an array of improvements: longer running time, support of 5V lavalier microphones, and a tuning range of 512-698 MHz. The TRX745 is a plug-on style transmitter that supports a variety of microphones and benefits from a longer running time and extended tuning range.

The new TRXLA5 is a transmitter designed for sound professionals. Weighing only 3.2oz (91g), the TRXLA5 is constructed from a high-strength, impact-resistant nylon polymer casing with rounded edges that’s cool to the touch. A graphic OLED shows audio and battery status levels.

The TRXLA5 has a user-selectable power output of 25, 50, or 100 mW. 5 Volt microphone connectivity is via a 3-pin LEMO connector. The TRXLA5 is that it uns on two AA batteries. Two Lithium AA batteries allow the transmitter to run for over 10 hours.

The TRX745 supports all professional varieties of microphones: analog mono, analog stereo and AES42.

Both have NeverClip, which works by using two A-D converters to extend the dynamic range of the transmitter to 126 dB, so there’s never any limiter distortion. Like all Zaxcom Digital Recording Wireless, the TRXLA5 and TRX745 transmit using 100% digital modulation allowing audio to be fully encrypted. It has a built-in recorder, audio is simultaneously transmitted and recorded to a removable microSD card using the highly reliable MARF (Mobile Audio Recording Format) which eliminates file corruption common to recordings due to a dead battery or early card removal. Additional features include PowerRoll to further extend battery life, Zaxcom High Density (ZHD) modulation modes, and ZaxNet which allows for remote changes in frequency, pre-amp gain or to place the transmitter in the record, playback, and stop modes.

The TRXLA5 and TRX745 are available now, the USA model covers Blocks 20-23 (512-608 MHz), the Guard band (614-616 MHz), and the Duplex gap (653-663 MHz). The transmitters shipped globally cover Blocks 20-26 (512-698 MHz). The TRXLA5 list price is $1,995 U.S.D. and the TRX745 list price is $2,245.
