Steve Newberry Appointed CEO Of QUU

QUU Inc., has named Steve Newberry chief executive officer, effective April 1. In addition, he will serve on the company’s board of directors and receive an equity stake in QUU.

QUU was founded by Joe Harb in 2007 and is based in Mercer Island, Wash. The company’s technology enables radio stations to take full control of the RDS/HD in-car stereo display with the ability to monetize through ad augmentation and provide an enhanced listener experience. Beasley Media Group is among the company’s investors.

Newberry currently serves is EVP for industry affairs and strategic planning at the National Association of Broadcasters, where he has been responsible for overseeing multiple NAB projects, including the organization’s outreach and initiatives with the automotive industry and construction of a new NAB headquarters in the Capitol Riverfront section of Washington.

Newberry will continue in his current role until March 31.

Newberry began his broadcasting career at the young age of 14 and became a station owner at the age of 21. Besides serving as NAB Joint Board chair and Radio Board chair, he served as president of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association. Newberry has also been active in public broadcasting, having served for six years as a member of the national board of trustees of America’s Public Television Stations and five years as chairman of the Authority for Kentucky Educational Television. The broadcast veteran has testified on Capitol Hill on behalf of NAB on multiple occasions.

Newberry will remain in his role as chairman of Glasgow, Ky.-based Commonwealth Broadcasting. He will be based in Washington.
