The Switch, a provider of production services and global delivery of live video, has named Peter Timmons senior product manager. In this new position, he will take a central role in the growth and development of The Switch’s cloud video services platform, MIMiC, taking the strategic lead in creating and delivering best-in-class products and services across the company’s entire cloud-based portfolio. He will report to Robert Szabo-Rowe, The Switch’s senior vice president of engineering and product management, and coordinate closely with all company functions, including senior leadership, sales, and marketing.
“Peter brings an incredibly unique and rich range of live production and media technology expertise to The Switch, and we are incredibly excited to have him on board to lead the continued growth of MIMiC,” Szabo-Rowe said. “The capabilities of MIMiC continue to expand rapidly, and demand for cloud-based production and delivery services for live events is intensifying. Peter brings a depth of experience and is a fantastic addition to The Switch team, helping cement our position as the go-to cloud services provider.”
Timmons comes to The Switch with more than 20 years of product management, marketing, systems integration and business development experience across the media and entertainment sector. He recently was business development cirector, EMEA at GatesAir, where he led growth opportunities within wireless broadcast transmitters, and STL codecs. Previously, Timmons held roles as senior product manager at Snell Advanced Media, EMEA channel manager at Imagine Communications and live production systems architect at Sony.
“With extensive experience from both the buyer and seller side of the media business, Peter has a holistic understanding of the broadcast landscape and understands the technical and commercial needs of rightsholders, broadcasters and other content owners,” Szabo-Rowe said.
MIMiC is a cloud-based live production and delivery platform that provides global access to production, clipping and editing, transmission and bonded cellular capabilities. The end-to-end ‘as-a-service’ offering covers all aspects of a remote live production workflow — from IP video contribution through to distribution. It handles all aspects of the production workflow in the cloud, including clipping tools, editing and graphics creation, and comms and talk-back.
Content producers have the choice of using their own production crew or The Switch’s experienced team. MIMiC’s cloud transmission service offers global IP delivery, enabling rightsholders to take video feeds from anywhere in the world and simultaneously deliver them to hundreds of destinations using cloud-based networks and, where available, The Switch’s private network.
