Climate change and a fragmenting media ecosystem have combined to put new pressure on weather storytellers and the businesses capitalizing on their work. Climate change has raised the stakes in the business of weather reporting and forecasting even as the rise of streaming has multiplied the number of distribution platforms media companies must serve. To compete, TV stations and networks will need technology that simplifies production, while breaking down silos so people can collaborate across teams and even companies.

TVNewsCheck and The Weather Company will explore these issues and the ways technology is evolving to address them, during a May 11 webinar, Changing Weather: Technology Steps Up for a Demanding Media Ecosystem.

Along with examining the need for new workflows, the webinar, which will begin at 1 p.m. ET, will also consider the need to enhance cybersecurity and plan for cost-effective disaster recovery. Held soon after the 2022 NAB Show — and its flood of technology announcements — the webinar will also shed light on new alerting capabilities and their ability to speed multimedia communications.

The webinar’s speakers, who all hail from The Weather Company, an IBM Business, will be Pat Feldhausen, product manager, Max Alerting; Bob Millis, product managerMax Cloud; and Jim Politis, product manager, Max Velocity.

Kathy Haley, co-founder and publisher of TVNewsCheck, will moderate the conversation.
