TV newsrooms wage a daily battle against the deluge of false information bombarding their viewers. Four industry experts in isolating, debunking and reorienting this misinformation toward verifiable facts will share how they do it in a panel, News Technology and Combating Disinformation, at TVNewsCheck’s hybrid in-person and virtual NewsTECHForum conference on Dec. 14.

Dustin Block

Jonathan Forsythe

Dustin Block, audience development lead, Graham Media Group; Jonathan Forsythe, managing editor, Verify, Tegna; Bruce MacCormack, co-lead, Project Origin; and Emily Stone, VP digital content operations, Fox Owned Stations, will join TVNewsCheck Editor Michael Depp for the discussion at 4 p.m. at the New York Hilton, closing out this year’s event.

“Dustin, Jonathan and Emily are battle-tested against the disinformation that assails newsrooms incessantly, only worsening since the pandemic and rampant lies about the presidential election,” Depp said, “while Bruce’s work using AI to combat deepfakes with Project Origin has him working among the industry’s best at The New York Times, BBC, CBC and Microsoft.

“This discussion will go deeply into the weeds of how organizations can best equip themselves in the fight against disinformation and the ever-more sophisticated ways in which it’s propagated,” he said.
