Rafael Perez-Narvaez Named WRMD News Director

Telemundo is moving the Hispanic news veteran from WMEU Boston to lead its Tampa news operations.

Telemundo’s WRMD Tampa, Fla., today appointed Rafael Perez-Narvaez news director. He will be in charge of the overall operations and performance of the station’s newsroom, including the news productions across multiple media platforms. His first day at WRMD will be Aug. 9.

He is strategic, innovative and brings a unique perspective of the local news landscape to our newsroom,” said Jayme Neto, WRMD general manager. “His experience and leadership skills make him the right person to oversee our newsroom, and we can’t wait to see the milestones that we’ll reach together.”

Perez-Narvaez, a Boston/New England Emmy award-winner, is a media veteran with more than 20 years of experience in broadcasting. He started his career in 2000 as a production assistant, and then as an assignment editor for Univision Puerto Rico. After that, he has held various newsroom positions with increasing responsibility over the years.

Most recently, Perez-Narvaez was part of Telemundo’s WNEU Boston news team, where he started in 2017 as a senior producer. In 2019, he was promoted to executive producer, and in 2020 he was named assistant news director.

Perez-Narvaez, a native of Puerto Rico, earned his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Universidad del Sagrado Corazon in San Juan.
