WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Few Syndie Fireworks Leading Into July 4 Week

Lower PUT levels, preemptions and vacations depressed numbers with Drew Barrymore and Dr. Oz the only first-run daytime strips of any type posting week-to-week gains.

Few syndicated shows celebrated the week leading into the July 4 holiday as most lost ground or, at best, went sideways. Making the going especially rough were post-pandemic summer vacations, preemptions for reports on Bill Cosby’s conviction being overturned and charges brought against the Trump organization. Drew Barrymore and Dr. Oz were the only first-run daytime strips of any type bucking the downtrend and breaking into positive territory.

Newcomer Barrymore jumped 25% from the week before to a 0.5 live-plus-same-day national rating and averaged more than 650,000 viewers each day, according to Nielsen.

Veteran Oz perked up a healthy 20% to a 0.6 and just nipped recently renewed rookie Barrymore, which rose despite being in reruns on all five days.

Live with Kelly and Ryan, the No. 1 talker, went on hiatus, but still had no trouble leading the yak pack for the eighth week in a row, giving back 6% to a 1.6 with repackaged episodes. Dr. Phil, also in repeats, took second with a steady 1.4. Everything else in the category was below a 1.0.

In time periods sporting higher PUT levels, none of the big game shows advanced. Family Feud fell 8% to a 5.4, but still topped the overall syndie chart.

Jeopardy was in stable condition at a 4.9, with Dr. Sanjay Gupta at the podium. Wheel of Fortune skidded 4% to a 4.5.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

On the court show docket, reruns of Judge Judy dipped 2% to a 4.7, but still creamed its legal competition and ranked as the week’s third-highest show in syndication. Second-place gaveler Hot Bench backtracked 7% to a 1.4, while People’s Court eroded 11% to a 0.8.

The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.7, unchanged from the week before)
  • Dr. Phil (0.5, unchanged)
  • Kelly Clarkson (0.4, unchanged), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.4, unchanged), Wendy Williams (0.4, -20%) and Maury (0.4, unchanged)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA means not applicable.
