WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Good Gains For Some Gab Fests

Four of the top 10 talk shows posted double-digit ratings gains in the week ending Dec. 12: Ellen DeGeneres, Kelly Clarkson, Wendy Williams and Nick Cannon.

Judge Judy got the most favorable daytime ratings verdict in the session ending Dec. 12, surging to a new season high and obliterating the court shows for the 1,316th consecutive week, or every week for the last quarter century. In an apparent display of still-growing popularity, the legal phenom surged 6% from its previous trial to a 5.0 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, its strongest showing since early July.

Judge Judy Sheindlin creation Hot Bench took second place in the category, improving 7% to a 1.5, which was nearly double the rating of the next highest courtroom.

In talk, two of the top four shows trumpeted new season-high ratings. Ellen DeGeneres, which has been on fire in its 19th and final season, shooting up 175% over the past four months, scored a new season-best 1.1 with a 10% leap.

And talk show powerhouse Kelly Clarkson clicked for an 11% spike to a new season record 1.0.

Dr. Phil remained the top talker for a second straight week with a steady 1.8, followed closely by Live with Kelly and Ryan racking up a 1.7.

Also of note, Entertainment Tonight scooped up a three-week high with a 5% advance to a 2.1 to lead the entertainment magazines.
