‘Wendy Williams’ Takes A Leap In Season Debut
The Wendy Williams talk show began its 13th season with guest hosts subbing for its sidelined star and surged 33%, the biggest increase of any strip in syndication, to a fifth-place 0.8 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, in the session ending Oct. 24.
The top talkers remained Live with Kelly and Ryan with and Dr. Phil, with both heavy hitters holding steady at a 1.7.
Kelly Clarkson and Ellen DeGeneres were also sharp, with the duo hanging tough at a prominent 0.9 despite preemptions for breaking news about the death of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, as well as strong competition from the baseball playoffs on cable.
Elsewhere, Access Hollywood was by far the biggest gainer among the magazines, shooting up 33% in the key women 25-54 demo and surging ahead 14% in households to match its season high 0.8.
In the game show arena, Jeopardy dipped 2% to a 5.6 in its first full week without star contestant Matt Amodio, but remained the overall syndication leader.
Judge Judy tallied a 4.6 to rule the court shows for the 1,309th consecutive session — or every week for more than the past quarter century.
At the back of the judicial pack, newcomer Relative Justice declined 25% to a new season low 0.3.
The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:
- Dr. Phil (0.6, unchanged from the week before), tied with Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.6, -14%)
- Wendy Williams (0.4, +33%), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.4, unchanged), Kelly Clarkson (0.4, unchanged) and Maury (0.4, unchanged)
