As of Jan. 1, Sunbeam’s WHDH Boston became an independent station after losing its longtime NBC affiliation when NBC decided to launch its own O&O in the market, but he sold his sidecar in the market, CW affiliate WLVI, for $162.1 million in the FCC’s incentive spectrum auction. WHDH responded to the affiliation loss by launching a lineup that’s heavy on local news.
Last August, veteran broadcaster Bob Leider came out of semi-retirement to succeed Chris Wayland in overseeing the group’s three stations, including WHDH Boston.
