A. Daniel Cates Named VP-GM Of WCSC

A. Daniel Cates today was named vice president and general manager of WCSC, Raycom Media’s CBS affiliate in Charleston, S.C. (DMA 94). He succeeds Rita Scott who announced her retirement on April 1. His first day at WCSC will be Thursday, April 21.

Cates joins WCSC having recently worked as VP-GM of WJHL Johnson City, Tenn.    

“Dan has an exemplary background in audience development in both broadcast and digital platforms,” said Don Richards, Raycom Media Group VP. “He is also well versed in coastal markets having spent a great deal of his career along the Gulf Coast.”

Cates career began as a reporter in Tuscaloosa, Ala., he went on to WBRC and WBMA in Birmingham, Ala. Cates spent 10 years as a news director in Mobile, Ala., moving to become director of digital content at WSPA-WYCW in Spartanburg, S.C., and then as VP-GM of WJHL.  

Cates personal work and the teams he has led, have consistently been recognized and awarded Emmys, Edward R. Murrow and Associated Press Awards for Excellence in Journalism, Investigative Reporting and Best Newscast throughout his career.

Cates is a graduate of Troy State University.
