Actor Jeff Bridges To Receive NAB Award

The Oscar-winning actor is being recognized for his work on behalf of hungry children in America. The NAB Education Foundation's Service to America Leadership Award will be presented June 6 at a dinner gala in Washington.

Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges will receive the 2011 Service to America Leadership Award from the NAB Education Foundation for his efforts to end childhood hunger in America, the foundation announced today.

In addition to pursuing his long and successful acting career, which includes the 2009 Best Actor Oscar for his lead role in Crazy Heart, Bridges has been active in trying to mitigate childhood hunger through the End Hunger Network, a non-profit organization he founded in 1983, and as the national spokesman for Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, which aims to end childhood hunger in America by 2015.

Considered NABEF’s highest honor, the Service to America Leadership Award recognizes individuals and organizations responsible for improving the lives of others through extraordinary public service.

The award will be presented during the Celebration of Service to America gala on Monday, June 6, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington.

“Mr. Bridges’ enduring popularity and critical acclaim are a testament to his tremendous talent as an actor,” said NABEF President Marcellus Alexander. “He is also a remarkable humanitarian, and it is for his extraordinary efforts in ending childhood hunger in America that we proudly honor him with this prestigious award.”
