DMA 24: PORTLAND, OR

Adrienne Roark Named GM Of KPTV-KPDX

She takes over Meredith’s Meredith Portland, Ore., duopoly, moving across town from the top spot at Media General’s KOIN.

The Meredith Local Media Group today appointed Adrienne Roark vice president and general manager of KPTV (Fox)-KPDX (MNT) Portland, Ore. (DMA 24), effective immediately. She replaces Andy Delaporte, who has left “to pursue other opportunities,” according to the station.

Roark joins Meredith from KOIN Portland where she has been president-GM since 2014. During her tenure at KOIN, the station’s newscast ratings and revenue share grew year-to-year. She also implemented a station-wide digital and social media strategy that helped grow the station’s many platforms.

“Adrienne is a highly regarded broadcast media executive with a strong history of success,” said Paul Karpowicz, Meredith Local Media Group president. “Her leadership and vision will greatly influence and grow our Portland station group.”

Prior to joining KOIN, Roark spent four years as VP-news director of KTVT Dallas-Fort Worth. She also served as news director for WFOR Miami; assistant news director for WESH Orlando; and acting news director for WDSU New Orleans and was in news management at WKYC Cleveland and WCMH Columbus, Ohio.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in communications from The Ohio State University and an ethics fellowship from The Poynter Institute for Journalism.

How can a station allow its general manager to walk across the street and start working immediately at a competing station? News anchors couldn’t do that, nor can sales executives and other top station management officials as they are usually contracted via a personal services contract. That’s got to hurt.

Only 2 ways. (1) She was not working under a contract or (2) She did not have a valid non-compete. Either way, someone above her was not paying attention.

If she is good…which I assume she is…. Media General brass dropped the ball.
