Alec Baldwin To Host ABC’s Revived ‘Match Game’

NEW YORK (AP) — It’s going to be fun and games for Alec Baldwin as he joins Steve Harvey and Michael Strahan for ABC’s summer prime-time game-show block.

ABC announced Thursday that Baldwin will be quizmaster for a revival of “Match Game.” First aired a half-century ago, it’s a panel game show that features two contestants who compete to match the answers from six celebrities in filling in a missing blank.

“Match Game” will round out a full Sunday night of game shows, starting at 8 p.m. Eastern with Harvey returning as host of “Celebrity Family Feud” and Strahan presiding over “The $100,000 Pyramid.”

The trio of hour-long shows will premiere on June 26.

Air the old ones with Paul Lynn and Charles Nelson Riley – They will be funnier I’m sure….

Match Game did NOT start a half-century ago. It premiered the last day of 1962 and was a different show then. There were usually two celebs and four civilians divided up into two teams. The questions weren’t terribly funny but the original was still popular enough to last until the fall of 1969. Then in 1973 the version everyone else is familiar with started. I doubt if the new version will work though. In the early ’70s everyone howled when “Boobs” was given as an answer. Today it’s routinely used everywhere and doesn’t raise half an eyebrow. Someone needs to digitize those two-inch quad tapes of CBS’ 1975 game “Spin-Off” and put them on GSN. There’s a show I’d LOVE to see revived.
