Alec Shapiro Named President Of Sony Pro

While retaining oversight of U.S. broadcast products, he's now adding medical, security and digital cinema and will sit on the Sony Electronics’ Executive Management Committee.

Alec Shapiro, senior VP of Professional Solutions of America, has earned a promotion that will expand his responsibilities, but keep him in charge of broadcast products in the U.S.

As president of PSA, Shapiro will add medical, security and digital cinema to his portfolio. He will report to Phil Molyneux, president of Sony Electronics in the U.S., and sit on the Sony Electronics’ Executive Management Committee.

The move is effective July 1.

Toshihiko Ohnishi, whom Shapiro will replace as president of PSA, will become deputy president of the Professional Solutions Group. Based in Japan, Ohnishi will be charge with expanding Sony’s market share in professional products throughout the world.

According to Sony, Shapiro has been instrumental in launching several Sony professional formats and technologies during his 13 years at the company. “His dynamic leadership has secured a front-row seat for Sony in the 3D and 4K digital cinema revolution across North America, and his efforts have helped to maintain Sony’s leadership position in the broadcast and production industries.”

In addition to Shapiro’s responsibilities related to Sony’s professional video, audio and business-to-business technologies, he also manages the direction and strategy of Sony’s Digital Motion Picture Center in Hollywood, a training and educational resource for production professionals.
