Anchor Rob Powers Returns To WEWS Cleveland

Anchor Rob Powers is returning home to Cleveland (DMA 18) to Scripps-owned ABC affiliate WEWS. Powers will join WEWS anchor Danita Harris, Chief Meteorologist Mark Johnson and Sports Director Andy Baskin.

The station is where his career began as an intern in the sports department back in the late 1980s. His career path took him to Binghamton, N.Y., followed by stops in Indianapolis and Toledo, Ohio, in sports and anchor roles.

Since 2009, Powers has been lead sports anchor and fill-in anchor at WABC New York.

“We are thrilled to announce Rob Powers as new co-anchor of NewsChannel 5 at 6 and NewsChannel 5 at 11,” says Steve Weinstein, the station’s VP-GM. “Cleveland truly is home for Rob and his family, and he brings a wealth of experience from WABC, the No. 1 local news station in New York.”

“The dream comes true starting with this announcement,” says Powers. Raised in Parma Heights, Powers is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. “I wouldn’t leave New York for anything but home,” he added.
