Anschell Succeeds Franks At CBS Standards

Jonathan Anschell, the network’s general counsel, will take on standards and practices responsibilities after Marty Franks retires on Sept. 30.

CBS has come up with a transition plan following the previously announced upcoming retirement of Marty Franks, CBS’s EVP, planning, policy and government affairs, who will step down Sept. 30 after 25 years with the network.

CBS Program Practices has reported to Franks since 1995. Jonathan Anschell will assume responsibility for the unit in addition to his existing duties as the general counsel of CBS Television and deputy general counsel of CBS Corp. Anschell has worked closely with Franks and members of the Program Practices staff for several years.

Also, following a transition period, the Program Practices teams on both the East and West coasts (led by Matthew Margo and Lorraine Van Lowe, respectively) will report to Anschell, who will report directly to CBS CEO Leslie Moonves on standards and practices matters while continuing to report to CBS Corp. General Counsel Lou Briskman in his other capacities.

Moonves praised Franks: “Under Marty’s supervision of our standards and practices function, CBS has led the industry in delivering compelling and groundbreaking content while maintaining the integrity and reputation of our company’s brand as well as our relationships with our audience and advertisers.”
