Antonio Canales Named GM OF KTMD

The former GM of Azteca America’s KYAZ Houston moves across town to the Telemundo station.

Telemundo Media announced on Friday that Antonio Canales has been named president and general manager of KTMD Houston (DMA 10). The announcement was made by Manuel Abud, president, Telemundo Station Group, to whom Canales will report. Canales replaces Roel Medina and will start on Monday, July 16.

In his new role, Canales will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of KTMD. He will direct and manage all aspects of the station operations, including news, sales, promotions, engineering, finance, human resources and community relations.

In addition, he will oversee the development and implementation of strategic sales and marketing plans and direct sales forecasting activities and revenue-generating goals to meet specific company goals and profitability.

Canales joins KTMD from Azteca America, where he was VP-GM of its KYAZ Houston. Prior to Azteca America, from 2001-10, Canales held several executive roles at Univision Communications where most recently he was VP-GM KWEX and KNIC San Antonio, Texas.

From 2006 to 2009, Canales was general sales manager of KWEX and KNIC San Antonio. Prior to that, Canales was national sales manager of KAKW and KBVO from 2004 to 2006.

Before he began his television successful, Canales worked at an agency acquired by Global Hue Advertising from 1999 to 2001, where he was an accounts supervisor.
