The Associated Press, The New York Times Co., The Washington Post Co. and 26 other news organizations have launched NewsRight, a joint venture to track the unpaid use of stories.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Associated Press and 28 news organizations, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, are launching a company that seeks to generate revenue from websites and blogs and other services that use their stories without authorization.
The new company is called NewsRight. It brings together efforts started by the AP and its partners in October 2010 to track the unpaid use of stories.
NewsRight spun off from the AP in July and took on other investors and members.
Potential customers include companies that sell aggregated news without compensating news organizations for the use of their content.
NewsRight chief executive David Westin says the company will offer customers a comprehensive array of stories, better data on how content is being used and legal protection from copyright infringement lawsuits.
