WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

April Comes In Like A Lamb For Most Syndies

With few exceptions, syndicated shows are flat to down in the week ending April 6. Four talkers are among the gainers, as are two magazines, one game show and a few off-net entries.

The first week of April saw ratings for top 3 veteran talk shows — and especially top rookie talker Queen Latifah — all advancing. However, most other syndicated shows trended flat to down in the week ending April 6, as PUT levels wilted in warmer springtime weather.

Dr. Phil improved both week to week and year to year, remaining perched at the top of the talk chart for the 31st time in the past 35 weeks. Second-place Live with Kelly and Michael, which is enjoying its best ratings in six years this season, moved sharply higher, gaining 12% from last year at this time. And third-place Ellen recovered most of its prior week’s decline.

Meanwhile, all the other talk show veterans lost ground or were unchanged week to week.

On the freshman front, Latifah was the only winner, clocking the biggest weekly increase of any talk show with a 20% leap to a 1.2, and a 50% surge among women 25-54, to a 0.9. That was its best household performance since the February sweep and its strongest demo showing since its premiere week.

Judge Judy, the overall No. 1 show in syndication for the 29th time in last 32 weeks, dipped slightly from the previous session, but still rose 6% from last year.

In access, The Insider was the only magazine managing to grow week to week and year to year, increasing by 8% in both measures. Entertainment Tonight continued at the top of the magazine rack, down a bit from the week before, but still even with last year.
