Art Norman Returns To WMAQ Chicago

Retired anchor/reporter Art Norman will return to NBC O&O WMAQ Chicago on a part-time basis starting in September. Twice a month, he will return to the station’s 5 p.m. newscast to air his “Art Norman’s Chicago” segments, which originally began in 2002 and over the years recognized many “unsung” heroes.

“I’m pleased to tell you that ‘Art Norman’s Chicago’ is making a comeback on NBC 5,” said Frank Whittaker, station manager and VP of news. “When Art retired two years ago, Warner [Saunders] called him the ‘heart and soul of NBC 5.’  I’m delighted we’ll soon be hearing ‘Art Norman here’ booming across the newsroom again.”

Norman spent almost 30 years at WMAQ before his retirement in 2009. He’s been recognized many times for his reporting — Emmys, IRE, AP awards and RTDNA, among others. His “Art Norman’s Chicago” segments told the stories of people doing great things in their communities in and around the Chicago area.

“Even after he retired, Art worked tirelessly to promote NBC 5 and the communities we serve,” said Larry Wert, president, Central and Western region for the NBC Owned Television Stations. “Art makes a difference every day and we couldn’t be more pleased to have him back.”
