AT&T vMVPD Service Offers Showtime For $8

DirecTV Now says the price for the CBS-owned channel is “the lowest monthly rate" of any of its online rivals. It also says it has added CBS and CW local channels in 75 markets.

AT&T’s DirecTv Now online video service has added the Showtime premium movie channel for $8 per month.

In a statement, AT&T claimed that price is “the lowest monthly rate from any [online video]  service.” AT&T’s also said it has begun adding CBS and CW local channels to the “DirecTv Now’ service.

In a statement, AT&T said DirecTV Now has added CBS and CW stations in 75 markets, which cover “over 70% of U.S. TV households.” Overall, AT&T said, “We now offer 155 local channels on ‘DirecTV Now.’”

AT&T said DirecTV Now currently sells CBS stations in Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Tampa.

The addition of the CBS and CW stations, AT&T said, means DirecTv Now offers the NBC, CBS, Fox, and ABC local stations in the six largest TV markets in the nation: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.

Though many industry observers have noted the struggles of DirecTV Now to gain traction in the on-line video service market, AT&T argued just the opposite. The service, AT&T said in its statement, “has great momentum as [it] continue[s] to bring our customers the content they want, on their terms.”

BRAND CONNECTIONS

AT&T again noted DirecTV Now has “over 500,000 subscribers” and claimed it “is one of the fastest growing live streaming services for those looking to cut the cord.” AT&T also argued.

“More people choose DirecTV Now each day and our new offerings only make that decision even easier.” The DirecTV Now service sells four packages, which cost $35, $50, $60, and $70 per month.
