Longtime Baltimore Sun television/media critic David Zurawik won a National Press Club Award on Wednesday.
The Washington-based journalism institution honored Zurawik with the Arthur Rowse Award for press criticism in print for his “strong series of columns on the shifting media environment and the power of videos from alternative organizations or citizens that are reshaping our culture and prompting a rethinking of some long-held journalism norms.”
Named after a former U.S. News & World Report reporter, the Rowse Award notes “excellence in examining the role and work of the news media,” according to the Press Club website.
Zurawik has worked for The Sun since 1989 and is the author of “The Jews of Prime Time.” He was previously a television critic and columnist at the Dallas Times Herald. Zurawik has a Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Maryland College Park and an M.A. in specialized reporting from the University of Wisconsin.
Other news organizations that were honored by the National Press Club include The Wall Street Journal, The Seattle Times and Fortune Magazine.
