Former CNN news executive Bart Feder will head news at Tribune Broadcasting, it was announced this morning.

As SVP of news, Feder will be responsible for overseeing all news operations and production for Tribune’s 42 owned or operated stations.

He will begin his new duties on March 2 and report to Larry Wert, Tribune’s president of broadcast media.

He succeeds Katherine Green, who was in the job for less than a year before stepping down in December. She, too, joined Tribune from CNN.

With more than 25 years of experience in TV newsrooms, Feder most recently spent five years at CNN where he was SVP of current programming responsible for the operation and editorial direction of all primetime and morning news programs as well as the network’s investigative, documentary and medical units.

Prior to CNN, Feder was CEO of The FeedRoom, a pioneer in online video, live streaming and digital asset management for media organizations.

“Bart has a long history of successful newsroom leadership and digital innovation. We are excited to have a content visionary of Bart’s caliber joining our team,” said Wert.

Feder has also worked in management or news at WABC New York, WHDH Boston, WJXT Jacksonville, KOVR Sacramento, WNEV Boston, WOR New York and WPIX New York.

He began his broadcasting career at all-news WINS-AM New York.

“Tribune has an unparalleled commitment to local news and finding innovative approaches to connect with its communities on every platform. I’m looking forward to working with an outstanding group of news leaders across the country,” said Feder.

Feder holds a BA in business management and economics from the State University of New York at Empire State College.
