Bob Newhart returns to 'Big Bang Theory'

Fresh off his first primetime Emmy Award win, Bob Newhart will be returning to the show that earned it for him.

CBS announced today that beloved Bob, 84, will be back as Professor Proton, Sheldon's favorite childhood hero, on The Big Bang Theory in November.

In the episode, when Professor Proton (Newhart) contacts Leonard (Johnny Galecki) to ask for help with an experiment, a scorned Sheldon (Jim Parsons) seeks revenge by befriending a rival science TV host.

And that host will be none other than Bill Nye, fresh from his stint on Dancing With the Stars!

Look for both actors on the Nov. 7 episode of The Big Bang Theory (8 p.m. ET/PT) on CBS.

Newhart scored his first Emmy for last season's guest-star stint after seven nominations. He had been nominated three times for his CBS series Newhart, and for guest stints on ER and The Librarian.
