Brien Kennedy New GM Of CBS’s Philly Duo
Veteran local television executive Brien Kennedy has been named president and general manager of KYW (CBS) and WPSG (CW), the CBS-owned stations in Philadelphia (DMA 4).
Kennedy comes to Philadelphia after serving as VP-GM of CBS-owned WCCO Minneapolis-St. Paul since June 2010.
Kennedy succeeds Jon Hitchcock, who is returning to his home state of Connecticut to become the GM of Tribune’s WTIC and WCCT in Hartford and New Haven.
Kennedy joined the CBS Television Stations in 2003 (when the group was known as the Viacom Television Stations Group) as station manager of WTVX, which at the time was the company’s UPN affiliate in West Palm Beach, Fla. In 2005, he was promoted to president-GM of WFOR-WBFS Miami and WTVX.
Prior to joining WCCO in 2010, Kennedy spent three years as EVP of Freedom Broadcasting’s portfolio of eight television stations and general manager of Freedom’s largest station, WPEC West Palm Beach, Fla.
His local television experience also includes serving as president-GM of KPNX Phoenix; general sales manager and later VP-station manager of WXIA Atlanta; general sales manager of WFMY Greensboro, N.C.; account executive and later national sales manager at WUSA Washington; and account executive at Blair Television in New York.
