Broadcasters Foundation To Honor Fritts

Former NAB President Eddie Fritts will be presented with the Broadcasters Foundation of America’s Lowry Mays Excellence In Broadcasting Award at the group’s annual breakfast on April 20 during the NAB Show in Las Vegas.

Eddie Fritts has been announced as the recipient of the 2016 Lowry Mays Excellence in Broadcasting Award. The award will be presented at the Broadcasters Foundation of America annual breakfast at 7 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, in the Brahms Room of the Encore Hotel during the NAB Show in Las Vegas.

After 23 years as president-CEO of NAB, Fritts launched The Fritts Group in March 2006, providing strategic counsel to various telecommunications companies. He received the Broadcaster of the Year Award at both the New York State Broadcasters Association and the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters, and he is the past recipient of the Broadcasters Foundation’s Golden Mike and Chairman’s Award.

In 2010, he was inducted into the Library of American Broadcasting’s Giants of Broadcasting, and in 2011 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the NAB. Fritts has also been inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame and honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards from Radio & Records magazine, Television Week and The National Association of Media Brokers.

The Lowry Mays Excellence in Broadcasting Award is bestowed annually on an individual in broadcasting whose work exemplifies innovation, community service, advocacy, and entrepreneurship.  It salutes its namesake Lowry Mays and is underwritten by The Mays Family Foundation.

What? No award for ex-NAB CEO David Rehr? Now there’s gratitude for you. Have a beer on me, David. Frankly, I would feel a little queasy getting an award with Lowry May’s name attached to it. There is the innocent blood of a thousand radio professionals on that award.

This must be galling to the TOC and its puppet, Phil Lombardo. He pushed Fritts out and showed what a thug he is. Eddie was classy and fought to stop a rift in the NAB. Now, with Phil out as Chairman, the BFA can truly honor a legend in Washingon. May Andy Fusher and Alan Fank fade away into the obscurity they so richly deserve. They pushed Phil to do their dirty work and then found they had to dump Rehr, the ultimate arrogant player. Tab for anyone?
