Uh-oh!! WHDF was the callsign for Houghton, Michigan’s previously ill-fated AM radio station decades ago. When the copper mines closed in 1968, locals who worked there said the cazll letters stood for “Where Hope Dies Fast!” Today its FM is WOLV, “The Wolf”, and the AM, 1400, is WCCY. Both do OK financially, WCCY having emerged from bankruptcy a few decades ago. It started operations in 1929. It was WHDF until 1979. Best wishes for success in Huntsville!!
