CBS Stations PR Exec Nelson Upped to SVP

Mike Nelson will continue to be the lead spokesperson for the group’s 29 stations and will also oversee the stations’ media relations and internal communications functions and provides support to other business units and corporate functions across CBS Corp.

 

Mike Nelson today was promoted to senior vice president, communications, CBS Television Stations.

Nelson, who has been VP of communications, CBS Television Stations, since November 2006, will continue to be the lead spokesperson for the group’s 29 stations that are located in major markets across the country. In addition, he oversees the stations’ media relations and internal communications functions and provides support to other business units and corporate functions across CBS Corp.

Nelson maintains a presence at both the station group’s headquarters in New York and in Los Angeles, where he has overseen the communications department at KCBS and KCAL since joining CBS in July 2002.

“Mike is one of the most insightful communications executives in our industry and plays an integral role on our leadership team,” said Peter Dunn, president of the station group. “He is a tremendous contributor to all of our stations as both an advisor and strategist. We love his passion for CBS and all he does to help elevate the profile of our stations in the communities we serve. I am very happy to recognize him with this well-deserved promotion.”

Prior to joining CBS, Nelson spent six years with NBC in Burbank, Calif., where he was responsible for directing corporate and employee communications initiatives for the company’s west coast businesses, including the NBC Entertainment division.

Before that, he spent 13 years in the National Basketball Association with the Milwaukee Bucks (1983-1987) and the Golden State Warriors (1988-1996).
