CBS To Test Rapper Serch As Daytime Talker

Serch, who rose to fame as one of the first white rappers, performing under the name MC Serch, will headline Serch, a syndicated, daytime talk show from CBS Television Distribution. The daily, hour-long show begins a four-week test run exclusively on Tribune Broadcasting stations in eight markets Jan. 6.

CBS Television Distribution in partnership with Tribune Broadcasting is going to test a daytime talk show with New York rapper Serch for four weeks in January, which, if successful, could be picked up by stations for a full-season run in fall 2014. Former Katie co-executive producer Ethan Nelson will serve as EP on the New York-based talk show.

“Serch has such an interesting, unique life story that makes him relatable to a wide audience,” said Maureen FitzPatrick, executive vice president of programming and development at CTD, in a statement. “He connects with different communities, has a message to share about taking personal responsibility for your life choices and is on a mission to help people change their lives.”

Sean Compton, president of programming and entertainment at Tribune Co., added: “Serch is a natural fit for Tribune’s daytime lineup and through our strong partnership with CBS Television Distribution, we are confident we will build a successful talk franchise.”

Short-term tests have become increasingly commonplace in daytime TV since Fox TV Stations began testing shows like Debmar-Mercury’s Wendy Williams in 2008 and, more recently, Warner Bros.’ Bethenny, which kicked off its first full season this month.

CTD and Tribune this fall paired up on two promising rookies, Arsenio Hall in late night and the conflict-talk show The Test from The Doctors’ Stage 29 Productions.

Serch, a daily, hour-long show, will begin a four-week test run exclusively on Tribune Broadcasting stations in eight markets on Jan. 6. It will be produced and distributed by CBS Television Distribution.
