CBS Ups Brian Watson To Detroit Duo GM

He gets promoted from station manager/sales director of WWJ and WKBD to vice president and general manager.

Veteran CBS Television Stations executive Brian Watson has been promoted to vice president and general manager of the group’s WWJ (CBS) and WKBD (CW) Detroit (DMA 13).

Watson has been the stations’ VP-station manager/director of sales since August 2016, when he first assumed day-to-day responsibility for overseeing the Detroit duopoly by succeeding his longtime colleague and mentor Tom Canedo, who moved to WUPA, the CBS-owned CW affil in Atlanta.

In his new role, Watson will continue to lead the stations’ sales operation.

A 17-year CBS Television Stations veteran, Watson joined WWJ and WBKD as VP of sales in 2012.

Prior to that, he spent 14 years at WUPA Atlanta, where he began as an account executive and was promoted to local sales manager in 2000 and national sales manager in 2001.
