HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Chuck Rhodes, abc27’s “Let’s Go Places” reporter and longtime forecaster, has announced his decision to retire.

Chuck said he wants to spend more time with his family. His last day at the station will be April 30.

Chuck stepped down as a weather forecaster after 35 years in May 2008 to take on the challenge as a feature reporter. Over the years, he has written – and often videotaped – the “Let’s Go Places” reports.

“Reporting over 700 segments for my “Let’s Go Places” reports on abc27 News has convinced me there are a lot of good people doing fun, interesting and positive things right in our back yard,” Chuck said. “The viewers have been so kind to me over the years, I remain humbly grateful.”

In addition to his “Let’s Go Places” reporting, Chuck also continued making hundreds of appearances in the community throughout the year. He also hosted health specials and accompanied local travel groups on tours around the world.

“When Chuck presented his plan in 2007 we were very surprised,” General Manager Joe Lewin said. “However, his decision to turn his attention to feature reporting was a natural progression for his personality. The staff as well as our viewers will deeply miss his reports and sense of humor.”

“I’m leaving abc27 with lots of great memories and, hopefully, a promotional coffee cup,” Chuck added. “I was actually hired on April Fool’s Day, but the joke was on them. I stayed!”
