9News named TV station of the year for 18th time in Colorado Broadcasters Association competition

9 News wins 18th 2016 Television Station of Year, The Fox wins Radio Station of Year Award

The Colorado Broadcasters Association announced the winners of the Awards of Excellence and Certificate of Merit Saturday night.

The Fox, or KRFX-FM, in Denver was named 2016 Radio Station of the Year for the metro market.

KUSA-Channel 9 in Denver won its 18th 2016 Television Station of the Year award. 9News also won best regularly scheduled newscast.

Aaron Harber of The Aaron Harber Show won the 2016 Rex Howell Award.

KDVR-Channel 31 won best documentary for “Frozen in Time: Remembering the Holocaust” in the metro-area market category. Best breaking news coverage under deadline pressure went to KDEN-TV Telemundo for its coverage of fires in Colorado.

9News won best regularly scheduled newscast.

n TV for non-metro market, KOAA-Channel 5 in Colorado Springs and Pueblo won best documentary for a piece on teen suicide. KKTV-Channel 11 won best breaking news coverage under deadline pressure for its reporting on the Beulah Hill Fire, and KXRM-Channel 21’s News at 9 Right Now won best regularly scheduled newscast.

In the major market radio category, KUAD-FM won best news feature for its “Putting a Name to Veterans Day” segment. Alana Lynn from KTRR-FM and KUAD-FM in Northern Colorado won in three categories: best morning show, best midday show and best station personality.

For the metro area, 850 KOA in Denver won best regularly scheduled newscast for its morning show with April Zesbaugh and Stefan Tubbs, and best coverage of a single news event for its work around the parade and rally that followed the Broncos Super Bowl 50 win. 850 KOA also won best sports coverage by an individual or team.
