Cowles Buying Seven Max Media Stations
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Spokane, Wash.-based Cowles Co. on Tuesday announced plans to buy a group of seven television stations from the Max Media of Montana Co. Cowles publishes The Spokesman-Review and owns NBC affiliate KHQ Spokane.
The Max Media stations being sold to Cowles Montana Media Co. are: KULR Billings; KTMF with stations in Missoula and Kalispell; KWYB Butte and Bozeman; KFBB Great Falls and KHBB Helena. KULR is an NBC affiliate and the others are ABC/Fox affiliates.
The companies expect to close the transaction by Dec. 1. The deal must be approved by the FCC. Terms were not released.
Cowles Montana Media is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cowles Co., a family-owned media, forest products and real estate company.
Kalil & Co. brokered the deal.
Last month, Cowles sold three stations to News-Press & Gazette Co. for $21,950,000: KION (CBS) and KMUV-LP (Telemundo) in Monterey-Salinas, Calif., and Fox affiliate KKFX Santa Barbara, Calif.
